- Thank you for requesting information about the Rock Ridge Group CD-ROM
- proposals. The Rock Ridge Group recently submitted the draft versions
- of its System Use Sharing Protocol (SUSP) and Rock Ridge Interchange
- Protocol (RRIP) to the US National Institute of Standards and Technology
- (NIST). These proposals extend and are completely compliant with the
- current international standard format for CD-ROM, ISO 9660-1988. NIST
- has announced its intention to write a US Federal Information Processing
- Standard which will cover ISO 9660-1988 and the Rock Ridge extensions.

- The following companies have expressed support for the proposed
- specifications: Anvil Software Limited, Digital Equipment Corporation,
- Fulcrum Technologies Inc., Hewlett-Packard Company, Highland Software,
- Interactive Systems Corporation, Lehman Brothers, Mentor Graphics
- Corporation, Meridian Data, Next Technology Corporation (UK), Philips
- Kommunikations Industrie, The Santa Cruz Operation, Silicon Graphics
- Computer Systems, Solbourne Computer, Sun Microsystems and Young Minds.

- We solicit and welcome your technical feedback on the specifications.

- The specifications are not yet frozen, there is still time to comment on
- the documents. All technical comments MUST be received by April 30,
- 1991 to be considered. The final version of the Rock Ridge
- specifications are scheduled to be available in June, 1991.
